Are You A Wannapreneur Or Are You An Entrepreneur?
Hey everybody, Stacey Riska here. Your franchise matchmaker. I just finished up a call with a candidate who really wanted to do a dream business matchmaking session. He told me, "I'm eager, excited. I'm ready to be my own boss." I said, "Great. Let's talk about it. Why are you looking to be your own boss?" And he had reasons all over the map: I want financial freedom. I want flexibility. I want to be my own boss. I want to basically do whatever I wanna do it whenever I want to do it and I just want the money to pour in from the sky.
So I kind of had to do a reality check with this guy. I said, "You know, you're not striving to be an entrepreneur, you are a wannapreneur." Because what came out during our call was that he wasn't willing to do the sacrifice and go through the roller coaster that comes anytime you are in business.
You're gonna have ups and downs as a small business owner. What I encourage my clients to do is to look for a business first that allows them to do what they love, love what they do from the beginning. You should want to work IN your business, even if it's only for a few months. At that point, you can start, you can start to transition more of a passive income, where you should be working ON your business, not in your business.
In our coffee smoothie, franchise business, I was able to do this by bringing on a manager and it freed me up to do what I'm best at, which is doing marketing and building relationships with clients and then having a manager who does all the day to day stuff. Then after that, it's really about just having systems in place and that's why franchises are so successful because they give you the training, the support, the marketing, the R&D you get all the systems . . . a business in a box.
So looping this back to the conversation I just finished up with this wannapreneur. It was pretty clear that going into business was not a good decision for this person. So if you are thinking that you want to be your own boss, fantastic. Let's talk about it, but let's first get clarity on if you are you really looking to be an entrepreneur or are you really a wannapreneur?
What are your thoughts on the topic of Entrepreneur versus Wannapreneur?
